Roberts to Show Virtual Manassas 2
Program


Big Walnut Area  Historical Society will visit a battle waged 200 years ago in Virginia when it meets at 7:30 Tuesday evening, July 10 in the Myers Inn Meeting Room at 45 South Columbus Street.  Roger Roberts will give an animated virtual tour of the Civil War Battle known as Manassas 2 or the Second Battle of Bull Run which was fought August 29-30 in 1862. 

This Confederate Victory cost many more lives than the First Battle of Bull Run in which a thousand men lost their lives on July 21, 1862 .  The estimated loss of life for these two days was 30,000 men.

Roberts grew up in Delaware, Ohio, and graduated from Delaware  Hayes High School and then Mt Union College.  Hylen Souders hired him to teach in Big Walnut High School.  Roberts went to Xavier University to get a Masters degree.   For 38 years he taught social studies in Big Walnut, served as the department chair, was a coach and a guidance counselor.  For 18 years he was the advisor for the high school yearbook.

Roger married Bette Hoke and they raised their two sons in Sunbury.  In addition to his family, Roberts enjoy genealogy, history and Big Walnut sports.  He is an active Trustee of the Big Walnut Area Historical Society and a docent in the Myer Inn Musuem.  On the first Saturday night in December, Roger may be seen  as Ye Olde Town Crier.
