Civil War Era

Men, women and children of the Big Walnut Area Historical Society formed the Rosecrans Command Headquarters to reenact battles of the Civil War.   They studied the American Civil War and its effects on the local community.  Dedicated members did research and presented programs to the group.  The focus of the group changed from a reenactment group to a  living history unit.

Named for local Civil War Major General William Starke Rosecrans, the group succeeded in getting the new elementary school named  General Rosecrans Elementary and provided leadership for the Rosecrans Memorial Statue which will be put on Sunbury Village Square in September 2013.  These worthwhile projects pulled the group away from its original purpose so it dissolved.  However, the research they did is valuable to others wishing to expand their knowledge of the American Civil War.
