On Veteran's Day, November 11, 2018, members of the American Legion, Big Walnut Area Historical Society and Sunbury Halter and Saddle 4-H Club honored the Veterans buried in Blue Church Cemetery.  Suzanne Allen, right, is an advisor for the 4-H Club and Trustee for BWAHS.

Coykendall, Harmon, 1756-1853, served in Revolutionary War in  New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, 1800, Resident of Sussex County, New Jersey-buried in Old Blue Church Cemetery, Kingston Township- Official Roster of American Revolutionary War Soldiers Buried in Ohio

   

Hillman, Benjamin,  Listed on 1820 Kingston Township Census,  Listed on Abstract of Revolutionary War Patriots (not on DCGS Cemetery List)

 
 
 

Potter, Joseph, 1754-1854, served in New Jersey, buried in Old Blue Cemetery, Kingston Township, Delaware County, Ohio.

Carney, Thomas, born 1785 in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania and died in 1862, buried in Blue Church Cemetery- Listed on 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850, and 1860 Kingston Township censuses.

 

 
    Coykendall, Peter, born 1788 in New Jersey, buried in Blue Church Cemetery, Kingston Township, Delaware County, Ohio- son of Revolutionary War Veteran, Harmon Coykendall.  
 

Potter, Gilbert- Listed on War of 1812 list in 1880 Delaware County History. Buried in Blue Church Cemetery.

  Benedict, Joseph (with father Benjamin Benedict) 1789-1877, GAR flag holder  
   

Carney, Private Thomas Leroy, 1836- Jan. 31, 1863, Company F, 96th OVI, Wounded at Chickasa Bayou and then got measles, died at Youngs Point, Louisiana, buried along the Mississippi River, grave washed away from high water. Grew up in Kingston Township. Information from relative, Florobel Lacher. Also death place listed as F H Vicksburg, Mississippi.  Also is a Grave for Thomas Carney in Blue Church Cemetery. May have been found and brought back for burial in Kingston Township.

 
 
 

 

Croy, Private John, born 1840-1864- Enlisted in 1861 in Company B, 18th U. S. Infantry, served in and died at Andersonville Prison, August 9, 1864, buried in Andersonville National Cemetery, Georgia- Former Kingston Township resident and relative of Florobel Lacher- Listed on Official Roster of Ohio Soldiers in the Civil War
 

 
   

Croy, Private Matthais, served in Company F, 96th Infantry in the Civil War, died June 13, 1863 at Millikens Bend, Louisiana, brother of John Croy.  Former Kingston Township resident and relative of Florobel Lacher.

 

 
   

Gaston, Private James Harvey (born 1836 in Scotland-died 1891, Enlisted at Camp Chase, Columbus, Ohio on August 8, 1864, Company H, 174th Regiment OVI, served at Siege of Murfreesboro and Wise’s Forks, served in Army of the Ohio and Army of the Cumberland, discharged July 11, 1865, exempt from soldier tax, Kingston Township, buried in Blue Church Cemetery, Kingston township, Delaware County, Ohio-Listed on 1850 and 1860 Kingston Township censuses.

Monument has father William Gaston and brother John on it can't read the other side
 

 

Maxwell, Drum(er)  William Henderson (1831-1903) Enlisted September 1861, Company A, 18th Regiment, U. S. Infantry, discharged March 1863, buried in Blue Church Cemetery, Kingston Township, Delaware County, Ohio- Resident of Kingston Township in 1863.

 

 
   

Rider, Private Daniel (1844-1901) Enlisted in 1862 in Company D, 14th Regiment West Virginia Infantry, buried in Blue Church Cemetery, Kingston Township, Delaware County, Ohio. Listed on 1850 Kingston Township census as a farmer.

 

 

 

Ward, Private Samuel M. (1818-10/1/1864), Entered at Delaware, Ohio on August 15, 1862 at age 38, in Company D, 121st Regiment OVI, died of consumption and is buried in Blue Church Cemetery, Kingston Township, Delaware County, Ohio. Listed on 1863 Porter Township list.

  Brenner, S1 Herbert Irvin, 1923-2008. Enlisted on September 15, 1945; Served in U. S Navy during World War II; Mustered out June 6, 1946; Released on June 6, 1946; Served as Kingston Township Trustee for 35 years;  Buried in Blue Church Cemetery.       
    Estep, Private First Class William Elzie, 1925-2006- Enlisted in U. S.  Army on September 9, 1944 kill at Fort Hayes in Columbus, Ohio; Served during World War II; Buried in Blue Church Cemetery, Delaware County, Ohio.      
  Gartin, Corporal Kenneth M., 1916-1995- Enlisted in U. S. Army on May 1, 1945 at Fort Hayes in Columbus, Ohio; Served as Rifleman in 112th Infantry during World War II.  Buried in Blue Church Cemetery.  
    Grady, TEC5 Clyde H., 1925-2001- Enlisted May 17, 1943 in Columbus, Ohio; Served in the U. S. Army during World War II; Released on December 22, 1948; Buried in Blue Church Cemetery.
  Morit, PFC Arthur Theodore, 1927-2013. Served in the U. S. Marine Corps during World War 2
  Romaniv, S.Sergeant Michael, 1922-2005. Served in the U. S. Army during World War 2

Woods TEC5 William John - 1929-2000. Enlisted in the U. S. Army on January 7, 1946 at Fort Hayes, Columbus, Ohio; Served as TEC5 in the U. S. Army for the Panama Canal Department.
